Marble City Cyclers got National Bike Week 2010 off to a good start on Monday night with the presentation of the Kilkenny Cycles Time Trial League at a function at St Patrick’s Centre, Loughboy. The league was sponsored by Kilkenny Cycles and Pete Scanlon was on hand to present the winners prize to Brendan O’Reilly. Patrick Tobin took second and Sean Kelly was third.
The Time Trials League was the first time trial series organized by MCC and was a resounding success. The league ran over 5 Thursdays and visited a variety of courses ranging from the flat run out from Cillin Hill to Paulstown to the gruelling climb of the hill at Kilmanagh. Club chairman Patrick Tobin thanked Kilkenny Cycles for their generous support and also acknowledged the grant from Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership.
The club also held a beginners and new members cycle on Monday night with the aim of attracting new members to the club. The 25 participants had a leisurely but steady spin out through Freshford and Ballyragget on a perfect evening for cycling before returning to Loughboy for refreshments sponsored by Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership. A host of new members took the opportunity to join the club and benefit from membership of one of the most dynamic and sociable sports clubs in the county.
Marble City Cyclers will now turn their attention to the upcoming Tour de Kilkenny which takes place on July 31st.
